E-coating is scientifically engineered to protect metal parts against rust and corrosion. It’s essentially a cross between painting and plating. From the chemical engineering of the e-coat paint we use, to the liquid immersion process itself, e-coating is carefully designed to completely preserve the surface quality of your parts.
Of course, that’s true of powder coating too – so what sets e-coating apart? For more complex parts with difficult-to-reach areas, it’s easier to achieve full coverage with a liquid-immersive e-coat than with sprayed powder. As an analogy, imagine being dunked in a pool versus being sprayed with a hose…
That’s why, in addition to durable powder coating, Winona Powder provides e-coating services. Offering both coating services means that we can choose the most optimal process for each customer’s unique requirements. We can also combine the advantages by using e-coat as a high-performance primer for powder coating.
Below, we take a closer look at the science behind e-coating’s protective advantages which preserve your parts and add extensive value to your end products.
E-Coating: Scientifically Engineered to Prevent Corrosion
The Liquid Immersion Process – For exceptionally complex parts with intricate geometries, internal cavities, and other hard-to-reach areas, e-coating is ideal for achieving total coverage. It combines the electrostatic coating advantages of powder coating with a more efficient method of application – i.e. liquid immersion. In other words, the paint more easily reaches all the nooks and crannies compared to powder coating.
A Durable, Chemically Advanced Surface Coat – The e-coat paint we use is chemically engineered for both durability and corrosion protection. Once cured, the coating creates a highly crosslinked polymer matrix, forming an effective barrier against the ingress of moisture and chemicals across the entire surface of the part.
Carefully Controllable for Thin Coats – The e-coating process allows for extremely fine control over the coating’s thickness. Compared to sprayed paint and powder, it’s much easier to achieve exceptionally thin coats with no missed areas.
A High-Performance Primer – E-coating is outstanding at achieving total coverage with a thin layer for use as a high-performance primer. For ultimate corrosion protection, we can powder coat over top of the e-coat primer, combining the advantages of both processes.
