Architectural Coatings: FEVE Powder Coating vs. PVDF Paint

As an AAMA Registered Applicator, we’re proud to deliver architectural coatings that meet and exceed AAMA 2605 performance requirements—while offering the next generation of durability, sustainability, and design flexibility.
Why FEVE Powder Coating Outperforms Liquid PVDF Paint:
  • Advanced Thermosetting Chemistry:
Both 100% FEVE powder and 70% PVDF (Kynar®) liquid coatings meet AAMA 2605 standards—but FEVE powder’s thermosetting fluoropolymer chemistry forms a permanent, cross-linked structure when cured. This creates new chemical bonds—including a carbon–fluoride bond, the strongest in nature—resulting in a tougher, harder surface that can’t be broken down. Thermoplastic PVDF paints remain softer and more prone to scratching.
  • Superior Scratch and Mar Resistance:
The thermoset nature of FEVE powder coatings provides exceptional mechanical durability, chemical resistance, and weathering performance—ideal for high-touch, high-traffic architectural environments.
  • Resin Integrity:
Traditional 70% PVDF paints require an acrylic component (30%) to achieve adhesion. By contrast, FEVE powders use 100% fluoropolymer resin, extruded into a completely homogenous mix that delivers superior adhesion without acrylics or primers.
  • Single-Coat Efficiency:
Architectural powder coatings achieve AAMA 2605-level performance in one coat—no primer required—versus the 2–4 coats typically required by liquid PVDF systems.
  • Environmental Performance:
    • Zero solvents / VOCs—no hazardous waste or solvent disposal costs.
    • Reclaimable overspray—up to 97% material utilization.
    • Lower cure temperatures reduce energy use and CO₂ emissions.
    • Chrome-free pretreatment, no thermal oxidizers required.
    • Supports LEED certification with EPDs, HPDs, and verified sustainability credentials.
  • Enhanced Film Integrity & Protection:
FEVE powder creates a thicker, harder, more adhesive film with exceptional abrasion resistance and corrosion protection—passing ASTM G85 2,000-hour salt spray tests on aluminum substrates.
  • Design Versatility:
Available in an extensive range of gloss levels, metallics, speckles, and textures for truly custom architectural finishes.
In short, FEVE architectural powder coatings provide unmatched durability, environmental benefits, and applied efficiency—delivering the performance of liquid PVDF systems in a cleaner, tougher, single-coat solution.
